The Untold Lie - Continued

Carried on working on my original idea, then made a alternate one. I tried to go back to the way I worked before as I've been struggling of late.

The Untold Lie

Continuing with my book covers project for Twentieth Century American short stories. The first is 'The Untold Lie' by Sherwood Anderson. The story is basically about the moral choices of two male farm workers, one, married with 6 children and the other a rebellious young man who has gotten a local women pregnant.

Above is the initial composition I came up with.

Talking Graphics

Attended a talk yesterday with Birmingham based graphic designer James Langdon.

Not really knowing too much about what it takes to be a graphic designer, I was very interested to see what sort of stuff they do. I must admit I was impressed by the things he and his colleagues did. I also managed to glean some ideas from listening to him talk about his process and the books hes produced independently.

Thoroughly Enjoyable (if a little long)

Another Experiment

Not Completely sure where these are going, but for the moment, I find them pleasing.

Collage Experiments

Couple of Digital Collage experiments made using found items and my own photographs.

Gathering Materials

I went to the Malvern Flea Market on Sunday to find some interesting things to use when making collages. I managed to get some issues of Good Housekeeping from the 60s as well as some more old copies of Nat-Geo and Picture post. I also got a bundle of random old Mags for £5 which was nice.

American Short Stories Project Update

Today I carried on with some initial ideas for my short stories cover. Although I'm not really supposed to be redesigning the actual Penguin book cover, I thought it might help me to get a theme going. (Above is a first rough attempt)

A chat with a Pro

Yesterday our lecture was given by the Illustrator Ian Dodds.
I found it extremely interesting and useful. I also found it spooky that most of the things he said or spoke about have in someway happened to me.

Also had the privilege of sitting down with Ian after the lecture and having a chat about my work and what steps I should take next. Hopefully I will take on board his advice and take the initiative and start to put myself out there!

Penguin Short Stories Project

Today I finally made a start on my second of three new projects for my final semester at University.

This project is based around the Penguin book of American Short Stories, of which I will select 6 and make covers for them, much like the penguin 70's set.

Billy Bragg Collage

Today I continued working on my Billy Bragg project. I made this digital collage using images found from old issues of Picture Post & National Geographic Magazine as well as scans from photos from LIFE Magazine books.

The Beginning

I've decided to start a blog to keep people up to date with my movements and also to create a documented history of my endeavors.

Cheers
